When there is not a single sense of optimism in humans, they would not have confidence to carry out their thoughts or plans.
Optimism allows one to be able to predict a favourable situation in the future which then makes one happy. Without optimism, we would always be thinking of bad situations which may be of no good to oneself and thus feel depressed or sadness, thus leading a miserable life. When a person is usually optimistic, he would then be able to plan further ahead of him and have the courage to carry out these planned tasks, boosting his or her efficiency level and have greater confidence to press on further. However when a person is mostly pessimistic, he predicts the worst situation for everything he does which will eventually become a barrier obstructing him of this road towards success. The person would always think that he or she did not do a good job and hence is always stuck at that level because he or she does not have the required confidence to move on and be proud of what they did or are doing.
As a quote from Jimmy Dean suggests, “I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.”, one may not change the course of events as they happen but one is definitely able to change their method of overcoming the wind such that one achieves his or her dream destination. For example in school when you cannot change the school curriculum the only thing one can do is to work hard and be able to catch up with the curriculum. While the optimistic people are striving to excel by working hard, pessimistic people would be complaining or protesting about their teacher giving them too much homework and thus not wanting to do any homework at all.
In conclusion, if humans are not inherently optimistic, the world not be as developed as it is now because people are not willing to move on or just to plan ahead. Also, the world would be in a very moody atmosphere because no one is happy with that they do.
