Online Lesson 10

http://www.voanews.com/english/news/In-Malaysia-Increasing-Religious-Tension-May-Be-Linked-to-Economic-Concerns-85193557.html

The link above talks about the recent dispute between Muslims and other religions such as Catholics over the usage of the word "Allah". When the Malaysian High Court allowed Roman Catholics to use "Allah" to refer to God, the Muslims were unhappy because they felt that the term "Allah" is exclusive to Muslims only. This is similar to the quarrels between Shylock and the Christians in the court room in Merchant of Venice, Act 3 Scene 1 about the rights the religion deserve.

The link above shows an article about the global financial crisis. Just like when Antonio's ships were destroyed, he was unable to pay Shylock the money he owes him. Antonio was then, in a financial crisis.

With ragged clothing, pants hanging on the edge of his thighs, almost dropping off until he pulled them up. Abraham was running bare footed, trying to ignore the little pebbles and rocks that were cutting the bottom of his feet; he clenched his fists so hard that they seemed to be unable to be unlocked. On his tail were two well-built men who seemed effortlessly chasing Abraham while another shorter man in sunglasses approached while using a comb to style his hair. The two well-built men managed to give Abraham a push which made him fall two feet forward. Abraham, with his body facing the ground turned his head towards the sun which soon got blocked by the face of the man in sunglasses. The two well-built men surrounded Abraham while the man in sunglasses started to speak. "Well well, a Jew ain’t no promise keeper eh? So my money is not coming back? If not tell me when." the man in sunglasses who was the boss said to Abraham in a very agitated tone.

"Blame it on your father who's such a coward, leaving his son to repay his debts? And now his son is such a weakling." one of the well-built man mocked Abraham.

Abraham slammed the ground with his still locked fists, “Do not mock my father! I will pay back the money and soon you will know a Jew is just as good as another Christian!” Abraham exclaimed as tears started running down his dusted cheeks. The boss lowered his sunglasses and using the top of his eyes; he glanced at Abraham then turned back and walked away while laughing to himself. Then, with a wave of his arm, the two well-built men started beating Abraham, showing no mercy to a child.
