Re: Report on Proposal to Build an Indoor Sports Hall
I am Yeo Eng Chow, the Chairperson of the Student Sports Committee. Recently, our school has received seven hundred thousand dollars from the government, and we are planning to use the money to either build an Indoor Sports Hall or a swimming pool. Therefore, after some contemplation, I feel that we should build an Indoor Sports Hall in the school.
I feel that we should build an Indoor Sports Hall as there are many advantages, more than building a swimming pool. Firstly, the sports hall is one quarter the size of a football field. It is big enough for many things, such as basketball courts, a volleyball court, and a netball court. It is not air-conditioned, but is still well ventilated. Building a indoor sports hall will also have a positive effect on the committee, as the residents are able to utilize the hall after curriculum hours. Finally, Physical Education lessons can be made very enjoyable, not having to play in the searing heat of the hot afternoon sun, or having to cancel the lesson due to bad weather.
Furthermore, our school’s indoor sports hall can be a venue for many committee events, such as the bursary award, where all students in the area come and receive a scholarship. By hosting more and more events organized by the committee, we will definitely foster a good relationship between the school and the committee.
As for the swimming pool, I feel that we should not choose that even though in would be an Olympic sized swimming pool. Although fun sports such as aqua aerobics and water polo will be introduced, and swimming lessons will be part of the curriculum, there will be no lifeguard on duty the whole time, so the students have to swim at their own risk. I feel that safety definitely comes first, and it is more important than any other lessons or sports, therefore I feel that it is not a good idea to build a swimming pool.
All in all, I feel that we should build a indoor sports hall as it will benefit both the students and the committee.
